😮 I failed…

I failed…

A year ago, I set a goal to run a 100 mile race within 24 hours.

The race I chose for this challenge was the Brazos Bend 100.

To put it into perspective how big of a goal this was for me, I only ran a total of 193 miles in 2022.

And the longest I had ever ran before was a marathon in 2018.

Going from running an average of 3 miles per week to over 100 miles in one day with hardly any long-distance experience is an extreme goal to say the least!

But, I drafted a plan and worked my butt (and feet) off.

I focused on the daily habits and activities that were essential to achieving my goal.

It was tough, and sometimes I thought about quitting.

There were plenty of excuses I could have used: knee and feet problems, a hectic schedule, not being a naturally fast runner, and even the 2023 summer heat wave that messed up my training.

But I didn’t give up. I stuck to my plan!

As the race day approached, though, it was clear I wouldn’t meet my 100-mile goal.

I’d improved a lot over the year but not enough for that.

So, I switched to the 100k race, which is just over62 miles!

It would still be a huge challenge for me, physically and mentally.

I ran that race this past Saturday.

(Check out pictures on my Facebook post).

The best part isn’t that I completed the 100k.

It’s that I aimed super high, for a 100-mile race, and even though I didn’t make it, I pushed myself way beyond what I thought I could do.

That’s my wish for you in 2024.

Set goals so big they feel nearly impossible.

Then, work super hard every single day to reach them.

Even if you don’t hit your target, you’ll be amazed at how far you’ve come and what you’ve accomplished.
