We got connected in the easy workplace. So it’s our kind of water cooler and collaborative board. So very excited. I mean, you’re a veteran team leader, can you take yourself back?

Back in the day, you’re probably just very fresh and very green agent but decided you’ve got the success under the board, you understand the game and you want to be a team leader. For you, how did you make that jump on “Hey, actually, I want to start a team.”

Angelita Byrd  00:39

Okay, well, that’s a great question. I’d love to answer that and share a little bit about my story, which is so interesting. In 2006, I made a decision. I walked into a real estate office and say, “Hey, I want to be a realtor.” And so when I walked in, I met with my broker who was there and he said, “Come on in.” And he took me under his wing and pretty much taught me everything that I know today here in real estate which was great, because it was old school. I was that girl who’s knocking on doors. You know, just doing all this stuff. You know, just to kind of make sure everybody know I was the community real estate professional.

There’s no program live then?

Angelita Byrd  01:17

Yes. No, we didn’t have in it. It’s great stuff. Everybody is able to use. Right. So either way, I went on to become a rookie of the year and top producer of the year in that real estate company. And I’m just still to this day thankful and grateful for that opportunity and my broker at the time. And now here we are. Let’s fast forward being an industry for 15 years now. And now just coming here to eXp. My God. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life throughout these years and I just love everything about it.

Now, when we talk about building teams, this is actually I’m the underdog that’s on this podcast today, which I absolutely love to be honest with you. So either way, so hear it on this podcast. But I decided when I saw the business model, I said it’s game over. It’s game over. Because throughout my career in real estate, yes, I was pretty much a solo artist. I would get people to come into real estate offices here and there. But when I talk about being a veteran, Team Leader, that’s in my other business.

I do come from the direct sales industry where I built a team of thousands of individuals in that organization. But when again, I saw the eXp model, I said, “Wow, did they just combine both my worlds together?” Where now, I can literally go out here and share because I believe sharing is caring. I know a lot of real estate professionals who I’ve done a lot of transactions with. Who would love to be able to see this business model. And here in Philadelphia, we’re not that large.

So I saw that opportunity to where wow, I could be one of those game changers here in the Philadelphia market to share with everyone what eXp had to offer. So I did just that with my amazing mentors here. Don Hobbs and Alice Gatti, big shout out to them. And literally, we just started throwing people in front of the information. And as I did that, I probably shared it so far with over 40 people plus and counting. Right.

Who is still on the fence that what you know, like one foot in one foot out. However, I was lucky to get the seven amazing individuals that decided to come here and join my team. But let me tell you, this is the interesting about how the world comes full circle. That one person who happens to join my team has guessed him, that broker who taught me everything that I know.

Chris Bounds  03:45

Wow.

Angelita Byrd  03:45

He literally just came on board two weeks ago. He is a broker and holds the highest designation in the commercial real estate industry, which is the CCIM. So I’m just grateful. He said, “You know what? You were my top producer I love with this business model has to offer. I’m on board.” So this is where we are today.

Chris Bounds  04:07

That’s an amazing story. And I’ve heard that on a few occasions earlier guests, Pat Hayes had a similar story. And I wasn’t an agent number one, but it actually happened. So you’ve taken a different approach to the team. The more traditional team approaches the production agent team, get to 3, 4, 5 or 10 agents. And as a team leader in charge of skills, building personal development with the agents, training and also leads.

There’s a lot of management involved while you still have to eat so you’re usually out there selling to until you grow a sizable, just robust team. But you’ve taken a different approach and it’s a much more passive approach. In that you can do all the same things and you don’t necessarily have the management requirements as a traditional team leader, because eXp has that with the 700 plus employees and the local broker support and all the training. What was the lightbulb moment for you personally? We only have like two minutes. But what was that lightbulb moment of this makes sense?

Angelita Byrd  05:23

The light bulb moment actually was just the culture that this company had. And that’s what I loved about it. Again, when I met with folks and they showed me the business model, I just loved the energy. I loved everything you showed me. I actually been now to, I went out to Phoenix. And I was at Brett Gross event out there. I met a whole lot of people. And that was just Aha, because again, in all my years of the real estate industry, as you know with real estate companies, you have one office here competing with the next office, but yet it’s the same company.

I noticed here that this is a company where everybody want to uplift and everybody want to build each other up. So again, right now, I’ve only been here for a month, seven agents on my team. We’ve done over, oh God. We have at least 1.2 million and closing so far and counting. We have multitude of listings out there and I’m just looking to expand and continue to grow this team and just kind of be out there with all the rest of you awesome rock stars are.
